Ciara & Russell Wilson Donate One Million Meals to Seattle Foodbanks Amid Coronavirus Crisis

The couple made their donation through the Feeding American network.

Ciara and husband Russell Wilson announced on Tuesday night (March 17) that they will donate one million meals to the Food Lifeline to help those suffering in Seattle during the growing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

Wilson, the quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, said in a video accompanying the tweet that the outbreak is “changing the world second by second, minute by minute,” adding that a number of the couple’s friends are losing their jobs as the economic toll of the virus’ spread begins to cascade.

Washington state has become the epicenter of the outbreak in the U.S., with more than 1,000 cases and 52 deaths to date. Gov. Jay Inslee signed a measure on Tuesday that drew $200 million from the state’s emergency “rainy day” fund, with the bulk going to the public health system and the rest going to an unemployment fund for coronavirus victims.

Like so many other cities where life and going out has ground to a halt as people are encouraged to socially distance and stay at home, the city’s famed live music scene has taken a tremendous hit, with a number of venues facing uncertain times and potentially crippling debt.

“We want to encourage everyone out there to join us in whatever way you can, big or small. Everything makes a difference, everything we do together makes a difference,” Ciara said. “Together we will conquer this tough time that we’re going through.”
